Thekkady, one of the major tourism attractions in Kerala, has its fame rested on the great Periyar Tiger Reserve and the famous Thekkady boating in Thekkady lake. We were in Thekkady to enjoy our daughter’s (Keya’s) 8th birthday. We booked our stay in one of the most amazing cottages of Thekkady Elephant Court Resort.
After a relaxed morning in The Elephant Court, we decided to go for Thekkady boating. Boating in Thekkady lake is the best and easiest way of spoting wildlife. Our boating experience in Thekkady lake was awesome though we did not see a Tiger. However, we could spot some antelopes, many monkeys, black macaques, elephants, wolves, and monitor lizards. And of course, we also found many cormorants and anhingas (snake birds) in Thekkady lake.
After the boating it was cooking time back in the resort. The Elephant Court chef prepared a tribal variant of green peppercorn fish. The peppercorn fish preparation was unique that the green peppercorns were ground with other spices and coconut milk to give a marination and then baked by wrapping in a banana leaf.
In Thekkady, kids also had their happy moments with some interesting fun activities including their enjoyable swimming experience. The next day we returned through Parunthumpara – another major attraction in Idukki.
